Synthesis & Evaluation of Course Discussion, Readings, Concepts, Principles, and “Big Ideas.”

 

Course discussions, readings, concepts and principles are rarely mentioned in the blog entries.

Ideas from course discussions/assignments are sometimes mentioned, but are not connected to broader themes or understanding of the course’s “big ideas” (enduring understandings.)

The blog entries repeatedly demonstrate an integration of concepts and principals from course discussions, assignments, and projects, and they reflect a growing understanding of fundamental course principles and big ideas.

 

Critical Thinking, and Interest

 

Blog entries are primarily a boring journal account of weekly course events.

Blog entries analyze some of the concepts presented, but do not synthesize or evaluate the content. While interesting, they are not particularly insightful.

Blog entries frequently demonstrate use of upper level thinking (analysis, synthesis, evaluation) and illustrate a thoughtful and very interesting approach to the ideas being discussed. The blog is honest and occasionally playful or humorous.          

 

Comments & Commenting

The blog author rarely comments on anyone else’s blog, and attracts no comments on his/her blog.

The blog author occasionally comments on others’ blogs and attracts occasional comments on his/her blog.

The blog author frequently comments on others’ blogs, and frequently attracts comments on his/her own blog. The blog author responds to comments on his/her blog by posting a follow-up comment.

Application and Personal Examples

 

The blog entries don't include any personal connection to the ideas and concepts being discussed.

The blog entries include personally meaningful information but it is not insightfully tied to course discussion, concepts, or ideas.

The blog entries share personal or job-related experiences that are discussed and integrated within the context of information, knowledge, and schemas developed from course readings and assignments.

Embedded Links & Media

Links and embedded media are not present, or do not relate to the blog entry content.

Some links to sources or resources are included. Embedded images, audio, and/or videos are occasionally present, but do little to further the ideas being discussed.

The blog entries regularly include links to sources or other interesting websites that relate to the entry content. Embedded media including images, audio, and video are present and illustrate the ideas being presented.

 

Writing

The writing in the blog entries is confusing or poorly structured and contains numerous typos or grammatical errors.

The writing in blog entries is clear, but is not elegant or it is convoluted. A few typos are present.

The writing in blog entries is clear, concise, and easy to understand. Ideas and responses are communicated clearly and coherently. Simplicity is favored over verbosity.

Timeliness

 

The blog entries are submitted late or not at all

The blog entries are usually submitted on time, but not always.

The blog entries are submitted on or before the due date.
