Intro to ISEnet

The first thing you'll want to do is Sign In (or Sign Up, if you haven't already!)

Once you've signed in you can post content. Clicking on the "My Settings" link will bring you to your account settings where you can change your account info or your privacy settings.

Your home page

Click on the "My Page" tab at the top to go to your home page. This is your very own page to customize as you wish. You can post to your own blog that appears here and on the home page. You can upload photos, videos, and audio files. You can embed RSS feeds or choose from a variety of interesting "Applications."

Discussion Forums

There are two places you can post discussion questions to the community: the home page discussions or "groups" discussions.

- Home Page Discussions: Click the "Discussions" tab (1). Before starting a new discussion, it's good
to search for your topic in case there is already an existing discussion. There are two different boxes
that will search for you (2). When you are ready to start your own discussion, just click the "Add a Discussion" link (3).

- Groups: In Groups such as "Tech Triumphs" and "Librarians" you can post discussions according
to topic, and even create your own Group. Click the "Groups" tab to visit them. You can sort by
"Most Members" or by most recent activity.

The "Share" button allows you to send an email to anyone about that particular discussion or blog topic.

Friends & Comments

To send a community member a "friend request," visit his/her profile page by clicking on his/her icon on the members page (or anywhere you see that person's picture), and then click on the “add as a friend” link. Once that person accepts your request, you will be virtual friends and you can easily access your friends from your friends link on the Home page. You can also leave comments on people's pages (whether or not you are "friends.")

Other options

Photos & Videos: You can upload photos and videos either from your homepage, or by clicking the "Photos" or "Videos" tab. You can upload your own videos from computer, and you can also add YouTube videos to the Videos section. You can also insert YouTube videos into your discussion posts: Go to the desired video on http://www.youtube.com/ and copy and paste the “embed” code, located on the upper right, directly into your posting on the ning site.

Invite: Allows you to send an invitation via email to a friend who is not yet a community member. Just add your friend’s name and email address and they’ll receive an email from us!

Tags: A tag is a key word. Adding tags to your comments, videos, photos, etc., allows you to search for other pages with similar tags. You can add tags to any discussion, even ones someone else started!

RSS Feeds

RSS feeds are provided for a variety of different sections of our network. You can subscribe to feeds for the Main Discussion area, the Latest Activity, or subscribe to a Group feed, for example. You can use these feeds with a variety of RSS reader software and web-based news readers or personalizable homepages (like iGoogle or My Yahoo!)

Besides offering RSS feeds for ISEnet content, you can add RSS feeds to your homepage. Your RSS box on the left vertical bar, under your photos, allows you to enter the URL of your blog or another blog that you like. Your friends can see the titles of the blog entries as well as small excerpts!
