Adding My Blog to Technorati
I'm adding myself to Technorati so that they will index my blog. Technorati ProfileInternet Safety Ideas for Faculty?
Most of our internet safety curriculum delivery focuses on students, but a recent post from the NYCIST conference made me think about the importance of engaging faculty in this conversation. At my school we haven't found a good way to engage teachers in placing priority on grappling with internet safety issues. The New York state conference for tech directors includes a blog entry from Doug Fodeman which lists several scenarios for the attendees to discuss. I think it would be great to get our faculty discussing these scenarios before we have to deal with some crisis in student behavior online.

The Essential Processes of Learning
I came across a reference to Stanley Pogrow in the Marshall Memo today. I hadn't heard his name before, but have of course studied Higher-Order-Thinking-Skills and Socratic questioning method of teaching. Pogrow's 1987 article about research into his HOTS approach details four essential thinking skills: metacognition, inference, decontextualization, and synthesis. I hadn't realized there was a technology component embedded into this HOTS approach, but it seems that he advocates using computer simulations to provoke problem-solving thinking around the scenarios which are presented.

Craigslist with Pictures
If you use craigslist to buy or sell merchandise, check out listpic.com which takes craigslist content but displays it as images on a calendar, making it easier to immediately see all the items and know whether they are recent postings.
