Alan November: RSS rocks!

I've been hearing about RSS and tried a few years ago, but it didn't take; but last week Alan November was speaking with some passion about RSS as "bookmarks on steroids." I was sitting there in Washington National Cathedral with my tablet in its bag, and realized there might possibly be open internet access, so pulled out the tablet, fired it up, and sure enough was able to jump on the net in the middle of his lecture. It made his speech more interesting to be able to check out the sites he was talking about as opposed to just watching him jump around them on the projector screen. I think I was the only person doing this in the audience [at least on a laptop-- others may have been surreptitiously using their handhelds]. Anyway, the site Alan mentioned was bloglines.com , so I signed up for the free account and added Alan's doctoral students' blogs' RSS feed. A few days later, and I've added a bunch more feeds and it's really cool! All the headlines/teasers are in one easy to access interface. This tool has just exponentially increased my ability to see interesting items from a variety of sources, both by decreasing the time I might spend moving among the various sources, and by aggregating the content into the Bloglines interface. Now I just need to figure out how to syndicate my own personal website, so that you, gentle reader, might subscribe to these random musings :)
